Before the Moon Falls

(formerly titled I OF THE WATER)

Sia Figiel was the first Pacific Islander to write about the lives of Samoan girls, and her novels broke silence on taboos like sexual abuse, violence and suicide.

Despite earning international acclaim for her work, she has privately struggled with bipolar disorder, suicidal thoughts and the enduring impacts of childhood trauma.

This is an intimate portrait of a complex artist whose journey toward healing takes an unexpected and tragic turn.

Project Status:  In post-production. Filming took place in the U.S., Samoa, American Samoa, New Zealand, Germany, Scotland and France.
