Director Kimberlee Bassford is the featured speaker following the Community Cinema in Honolulu screening of Strong! presented by Hawai’i Women in Filmmaking & The ARTS at Marks Garage and taking place Sunday, May 20 from 6-8pm at The ARTS at Marks Garage, 1159 Nuuanu Avenue. Strong! is a one-hour documentary about Cheryl Haworth, a young woman with a big dream: to be the strongest woman in the world. As the 300-pound U.S. Olympic weightlifter prepares for Beijing 2008, she struggles with injury, confidence, and her place in a world where larger women are not readily accepted. MY WAVE awarded ITVS Diversity Development Fund

Our newest project, MY WAVE, MY LIFE was awarded funding through the ITVS Diversity Development Fund, an initiative that provides up to $15,000 in research and development monies to producers of color to develop single documentary programs for public television. MY WAVE, MY LIFE, a half-hour documentary that follows an at-risk Native Hawaiian teen through a court-mandated surfing program, will begin filming in May. Stay tuned!
