Making Waves Films LLC is a documentary production company in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, established by independent filmmaker Kimberlee Bassford. Our mission is to produce social issue, cultural, historical and environmental documentary films that advance social justice, strengthen our connections to one another and deepen understanding of the world.
WINNING GIRL has received a grant from the Women’s Fund of Hawaii to take the film out to girls groups in the state of Hawai‘i, pairing screenings with activities/discussions about goal setting and career preparation. We’re so thrilled to have the Fund’s support and to be able to use Teshya’s inspiring story to help girls achieve their goals, whatever they may be!
We’re so pleased that the late U.S. Representative Patsy Takemoto Mink of Hawai‘i, who was the subject of our documentary PATSY MINK: AHEAD OF THE MAJORITY, will be posthumously receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom on November 24. The medal is America’s highest civilian honor. For more information, click here. Also, as part of the celebration, the Hawai‘i State Bar Association Civic Education Committee and the King Kamehameha V Judiciary History Center will be screening our film on December 11 at the Judiciary History Center.
