Making Waves Films LLC is a documentary production company in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, established by independent filmmaker Kimberlee Bassford. Our mission is to produce social issue, cultural, historical and environmental documentary films that advance social justice, strengthen our connections to one another and deepen understanding of the world.
This year marks the 45th anniversary of Title IX, the landmark legislation that opened up higher education and athletics to America’s women, as well as the 15th anniversary of the death of its co-author, Hawai‘i’s late Congresswoman Patsy Mink.
In honor of these occasions, Honolulu Civil Beat has organized “Civil Cafe: The Legacy of Patsy Mink and Why Title IX Still Matters.” The event begins with a screening of PATSY MINK: AHEAD OF THE MAJORITY and continues with a panel discussion moderated by Civil Beat reporter Denby Fawcett of Patsy Mink’s legacy and the challenges and impact of Title IX today.
WINNING GIRL won Best Film – Island Culture at the 2017 Waimea Ocean Film Festival. Also playing at the festival were two of our other films: PATSY MINK: AHEAD OF THE MAJORITY and LOTUS ROOT: A GREAT GRANDDAUGHTER’S JOURNEY.
